Linking Park: 2006-W51
Puzzles, you, disclaimers and reviews, trends and classics, layout and exercises that leave you all younger.
Let's kick off this week's edition, #50 of 2006, with some food for thought, a very puzzling Googler has already had the fun --
For those readers who haven't solved it already, shade in nine regions such that no two shaded regions touch (even at a corner) and that eight of them "point" in different directions. The numbers outside the grid tell you how many shaded regions there should be in that row or column.
Become a better you, and learn how to know who you are in 20 minutes --
This exercise requires you to be honest. If you are answering what others want to hear, you will not be seeing yourself, but a superficial image you project. Be real with yourself as you do this and you will discover the richness of your existence! It is that simple, but it is not easy. It requires the courage to be honest, and recognize you will find areas for change.
Just like the Creative Commons, why not have our disclaimers and legalities all in one place, with options to choose from and modules to add for various purposes and pages? For the time being, feel free to consider the Mangrove Root Gang's disclaimer generic enough to be applied to this site as well --
If you choose to apply any information you get from this blog to your life, you do so at your own risk. There is no guarantee that your life will become better.
Reviews of 2006 and predictions for 2007 is the stuff that everyone is looking for towards the end of the year. This ProBlogger Group Writing Project covers just that.
For example, take the top 10 ugliest sneakers of 2006, now that's quite a review --
Every year Nike and the rest of the streetwear fashion industry tries to release limited edition shoes that people will swoon for. Once in a while, they'll be able to make a hit, like when Nike paired up with toy culture artist Michael Lau and created the Michael Lau Nike Dunk Low Pro SB. More often than not though, the crazy sneaker designs are just nasty and ugly.
A reminder to everyone in the streetwear fashion industry -- no more polka dots, fur or leopard prints please!
What about the six trends for blogging and money in 2007 --
Over the past several years, blogging has grown from a passionate hobby for a few energetic souls into a lucrative business for some and a dream for many. As with any trend that grows into a phenomenon, it doesn't take long before money invades, and we've seen this with the incorporation of context-sensitive advertisement in blogging and a backlash against it, along with hints of other major trends about to appear.
While nothing beats the classic looks and legend of a worn out M65, check out this Knowledge Worker Jacket, the BlackCoat JFK --
Industrial Elegance: Classic cropped workman jacket, updated to make it the Knowledge Worker Uniform for the New Millennium.
Viewport is the keyword in A List Apart's installment on adaptive layout technique to accommodate as many different screen sizes and resolutions as you use --
If you create a liquid layout optimized for a maximum width of 1024 pixels—limiting maximum line-lengths for your text to maintain readability-gaps will appear on a wider screens, and your carefully balanced layout will break. On a tiny-screened PDA, your text and images will be compressed into a crowded content sandwich. No designer wants that.
The origins of the five tibetans are not exactly clear, yet these exercises do work and are a great way to start doing at least something. (Yes, talking about resolutions for your new year...) The Five Tibetan Rites promise healing, rejuvenation, and longevity, you have nothing to lose --
In 1985 a book called The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth written by Peter Kelder was published which for the first time fully described an exercise program for 'youthing'. This is an exercise program used by Tibetan monks to live long, vibrant and healthy lives. In fact, this book states that many have lived longer than most can imagine by following the program often called the 'Five Tibetan Rites'.
Consequently, the book of the week is about The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth.
To your excellent life.
