Linking Park: 2006-W48
What a week... prevent yourself from cheating, sleep relaxed, learn the secret of coaching and discover the most amazing computer, ever.
Track your progress with Google's spreadsheets and prevent yourself from cheating with the new revisions system --
Revisions will enable you to go back to previous versions of your spreadsheet; publishing will give you a URL for your spreadsheets which you can share with anyone -- even as a link on another site or in your blog. The spreadsheet can still be updated from within Google Docs & Spreadsheets.
Discover 40 amazing facts about sleep --
It's impossible to tell if someone is really awake without close medical supervision. People can take cat naps with their eyes open without even being aware of it.
Isn't the opposite even easier to state?
While at the topic, biphasic sleep seems to be a way to save some hours to work even more --
... twice in a day. The first time being sometime in the early evening (around 8:30) and this block of sleep is only for 90 minutes. After my first block of sleep I'm extremely refreshed and ready to go another few hours. I set myself to be back up by about 6 so I either go to sleep again at 1:30a or 3a. Note these are in 90 minute increments again.

The 90-minute cycle actually refers to one complete sleep cycle. This includes going through REM sleep; the most important part of sleeping.
Right after getting out of the bed, relax your muscles; here is how --
The process involves purposefully tensing muscles and then immediately releasing the tension in order for the user to distinguish between muscle tension (which is highly correlated with stress and anxiety) and muscle relaxation. With practice, you will be able to mentally induce muscle relaxation at the first sign of stress and anxiety, which ultimately leads to mental relaxation.
Want to know the secret of coaching? There is no secret --
But I'm willing to give you my secrets. I'm comfortable giving them away because few people will really apply these simple points.

Just giving me the right to tell them what to do seems to free up some new enthusiasm for training and the stuff they need to do in training.
Coaching is one of the means to get you through the compulsories and ultimately allow you to indulge in freestyle. Coaching is about (see above)
the right to tell them what to do,
unsolicited advice is most often not welcome, lest you respect the one rule to successfully offer free help.Thank you for your attention and your appreciation --
Upon awakening every morning, make the decision to look for things to appreciate that day. There is always something to appreciate and be grateful for.
I'd like to close with some off-beat links via Jason Kottke --
The very detailed Back to the Future timeline is worth a glance --
The popularity of the Back to the Future film trilogy is due in part to the detailed and believable local history of the fictitious city of Hill Valley and the genealogies of its residents.
Some truly amazing mysteries of computer from 65BC are solved --
Detailed imaging of the mechanism suggests it dates back to 150-100 BC and had 37 gear wheels enabling it to follow the movements of the moon and the sun through the zodiac, predict eclipses and even recreate the irregular orbit of the moon. The motion, known as the first lunar anomaly, was developed by the astronomer Hipparcus of Rhodes in the 2nd century BC, and he may have been consulted in the machine's construction, the scientists speculate.
Remarkably, scans showed the device uses a differential gear, which was previously believed to have been invented in the 16th century. The level of miniaturisation and complexity of its parts is comparable to that of 18th century clocks.
Some researchers believe the machine, known as the Antikythera Mechanism, may have been among other treasure looted from Rhodes that was en route to Rome for a celebration staged by Julius Caesar.
Selective speedreading may be an answer to information overload and determining what to read --
High-street shops are now so stuffed with books that it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Beginning a new series on how to read a novel, John Sutherland recommends a few tips -- first turn to page 69.
Your book of the week: Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrion. Recommended for serious use.
To your excellent life.
