Leap Forward and Benefit from Nonlinear Growth
Never think linear about the future. Think in terms of leaps. Think leaps. Always expect the unexpected.
Imagine linear growth -- imagine a carriage with 350 seats drawn by 72 horses riding at 200mph. Imagine a billion operators, managing the phone calls around the world, every day. A billion messenger birds, every day. Imagine 10,000 ocean-liners crossing the Atlantic, every day.
Imagine exponential, nonlinear growth -- imagine a car driving with 500 horsepowers at 320mph. Imagine a trillion electronic letters sent and received, every day. Imagine...
Which group of examples sounds more unreal, improbable, even insane? Linear growth. Yet you plan and execute your strategies as if growth was linear and predictable.
Leaps. 50 years back from now, there was no thought about the internet in its present form with its present size, reach, and the many functions it performs. 50 years ago, there was no way to plan for the unlimited opportunities that we have today, just focusing on the example of the internet. The same and similar amazing developments can be found in transportation, in science, in medicine, in business, even in politics.
The most important events were the quantum leaps, the turning points of their time. Abrupt changes for the better, bigger, faster, more -- are never accomplished through simply scaling nor gradually evolving the current conditions. Growth is only limited where it is expected to happen in a linear way, a horse can run only so fast. So what -- invent a faster means of transportation instead of trying to convince the horse to fly. A revolutionary advance. Unpredictable and nonlinear.
The funny thing about the nature of the quantum leap in particular is that it describes not a huge jump but instead, the smallest change possible. It's the change itself and not its initial magnitude, which alters the course of events.
Project yourself from where you are now into the future, using linear growth. Done? Now consider some optional leap here and there. Better? You are probably not seeing any clear outcomes yet because you are not able to predict the points where developments become nonlinear.
Tap into your dreams. Make your dreams the turning points. Your dreams are the initial triggers for quantum leaps. Nothing else. Nonlinear and predictable.
Leap forward. You can very easily leap backward, there is nothing special or difficult about it. Leaping backward is nonlinear as well. Why do you think that leaping forward is such big of a problem then?
Please note that I am not referring to taking massive and widespread or even precisely targeted action here -- not right now. I am talking about sensing the quantum leaps. Sense and believe in and live the quantum leaps.
