• Resistance Training for the Mind?

Resistance builds strength. Without resistance you wouldn't develop physical strength. Likewise, is resistance necessary to shape the mind and build your character?

Now let's get this in accordance with all the positive thinking we are maintaining and carefully guarding and taking care of. Where is the resistance -- needed to train the mind -- in avoiding all critique, slightly suppressing all negative and negating notions?

Is it the resistance against negative thoughts that provides sufficient training opportunities for the mind? But then again, there is no resistance against negative thoughts. Negative thoughts are ever so gently filtered out of the stream of thought.

Following the law of attraction, resistance is the opposite of allowance and must be avoided in order to successfully attract. Resistance is detrimental to the whole concept of attraction and intention-manifestation.

Where are we going to get the much needed resistance from? Is it that much needed after all?

In physical training it is impossible to go without resistance. While being controlled, it is still essential resistance that has to be overcome in order to stimulate the physical apparatus to respond and to grow.

In exercising mental strength you have to deal with problems that seem to resist a solution until they are wrestled down, overcome, and thus defeated by greater strength. Do problems, questions, or any open issues actually offer resistance to the mind?

An unsolved problem could be a mere trigger for a specific response that has to be discovered within the mind itself. No resistance so far.

An unanswered question often remains unanswered until you finally let go, give up the resistance against your mind and have the answer delivered within a moment's notice. Still no resistance.

What about open issues? Issues that apparently strongly resist not only their kind solution but their hosts as well? Again, letting go, accepting, and building on top of all those resisting and resistant subjects reveals that resistance stimulates growth and expansion of the problems and issues. It is resistance itself which grows instead of the initially targeted mind.

Here is the difference: The resistance of a weight stimulates and promotes the growth of a muscle while the resistance offered by a problem expands the problem itself -- until the problem is acknowledged and accepted instead of being resisted. In weight training, resistance is desired, while in problem-solving, it is an unwelcome by-product.

Conclusion: No resistance training for the mind.
